The Sex Conflict
Perspectives for an Integral Theory of Sex and Gender

Sex and gender in Homo sapiens involves a great deal of open debate. Until now, most of the theories involved imply a degree of reductionism, and drag elements of consciousness developed throughout human history, but also earlier, in evolutionary terms. The classic "biological" reductionism (which I redefine as organic reductionism, within the framework of a more general theory on human consciousness) can only account for physiological and genetic mechanisms, reducing these mechanisms and their consequences to the diverse biological complexity. On the other hand, social reductionism axiomatically assumes that human complexity (and within it, its sexuality) is determined at a social-cultural level, independently of organic mechanisms. Both approaches emphasize different aspects of the problem, but fail to reach a comprehensive understanding. The consequences of this transcend the theoretical problem (sex vs. gender) and take over political perspectives to transform reality.

With the aim of expanding this debate, I propose the objective of approaching the problem from an integral, interdisciplinary perspective, in order to diminish the risk of any methodological reductionism and to arrive at a synthesis that comes close to explaining the diversity and complexity that defines - evolutionarily and historically - human sexuality and its restless "identity".

Under no circumstances can this search serve to justify the conditions in which current relations between the sexes are presented, which are clearly oppressive towards women (both cis and trans), in a society based on a historically patriarchal structure, but also towards men. The path to transforming these conditions, however, is inevitably conditioned to the extent that the current understanding of the problem is reduced to a conflict whose origin and development is posed within the framework of the History of Homo sapiens. If we are really committed to transforming this dominant reality, we must go further and begin to question the complexity of the problem. Homo sapiens is faced with a unique possibility in the history of Life: we can know and transform the conflict of Sex in the chosen direction. We can choose which social relationships we want to build in the future. But in order to do so, we must understand the evolutionary and historical complexity of this conflict.

With this strategic objective, I am looking for those who are interested in deepening and debating the elements that cross this problem in order to generate a space for theoretical and experimental research, but which aims to bring the debate to both the academic and political spheres. The work will be organized on the basis of periodic meetings, to discuss contents and establish questions, and the critical reading of gender and sex theories, challenging them with the scientific evidence of sociology, anthropology (human and primate), neuroscience and psychology, and including the different perspectives of philosophy. The more diverse the formation of the members, the more complex and fruitful the path towards such a synthesis will be.
